Chronobiotron
The Chronobiotron is a platform for hosting and functional exploration of rodents, characterized by its unique equipment specifically designed for the study of biological rhythms, the set of mechanisms organisms use to anticipate and adapt to cyclical variations in their environment.
This device, unique in Europe, includes installations allowing for the faithful reproduction of environmental changes in a controlled manner:
- Primarily, the photoperiod (day/night alternation),
- Temperature (useful for studying hibernation phenomena),
- It is also possible to mimic dawn and dusk, and
- To reproduce natural light conditions.
This structure brings together three complementary entities on the same site:
- A conventional animal facility dedicated to chronobiology
- A transgenic animal facility
- A secure level 3 animal facility A3/laboratory L3 zone
Since January 1st, 2012, this structure has been a mixed service unit (UMS3415) CNRS-UDS (University of Strasbourg).
The Chronobiotron is labeled GIS-IBiSA and adheres to the charter of research platforms in life sciences.
Its operation is subject to approval by the user committee and the scientific council.
The Chronobiotron is also part of national networks of specialized platforms in animal experimentation and transgenesis (ROCAD, CELPHEDIA).
