Conventional animal facility

The conventional animal facility, located on the 5th floor of the Neurochemistry center and covering an area of 600m2, comprises 17 rooms dedicated to housing and breeding animals, as well as 7 chambers for telemetry experiments on rodents. An annex of this animal facility is located in the Department of Neurobiology of Rhythms at the INCI, where 7 experimental rooms are available, including 2 specifically reserved for intracerebral microdialysis experiments on freely moving animals

Prestations

Reproduction, housing, and production of rodents, some of which are preferred models for chronobiology (golden hamsters, Siberian hamsters, European hamsters, and Arvicanthis ansorgei).

Production of animal models for physiology (adrenalectomized, ovariectomized, orchidectomized, pinealectomized animals, etc.) with or without hormonal supplementation protocols, or animals chronically cannulated (carotid artery, jugular vein) for sequential blood sampling.

Customized protocols for rodent food restriction via an automated system (rats or mice).

Continuous telemetric recordings on freely moving animals of physiological parameters (body temperature) and/or behavioral parameters (general locomotor activity or wheel running activity) using invasive methods (implantation of transmitters) or non-invasive methods (infrared sensors).

Multiparametric recordings (EEG, EMG, EOG, and ECG) for monitoring the sleep/wake cycle in rodents (mice/rats/Arvicanthis).

Intracerebral microdialysis on freely moving animals.

Training for personnel (trainees, students, and collaborators).

Responsables :

Dominique Ciocca

Sophie Reibel Foisset

Equipments :

A surgery room equipped with a mobile gas anesthesia station, 4 suction tables paired with stereomicroscopes, one of which is video-assisted,

An autopsy room equipped with a CO2 euthanasia station,

7 functional exploration rooms equipped for telemetry experiments on rodents, including 2 climatic chambers (temperature regulated from 4 to 30°C),

4 photoperiodic chambers allowing reproduction of natural variations in the day/night cycle with programmable dawn and dusk.

Access Conditions :

The use of experimentation rooms at the Chronobiotron is subject to reservation.

Reservation website

A mandatory orientation visit with one of the responsible individuals, resulting in access authorization (badge activation) and work authorization (description of procedures and safety instructions) – Welcome Guide for the Conventional Zone.
